THE SINGLE MISSING TOOTH – BACK TO THE FUTURE - by Prof Chew Chong Lin

Synopsis

With the advent of dental implants, there is a tendency for dentists to indicate an implant prosthesis when there is an edentulous space. This has resulted in success as well as complications that are unpleasant for both the patients and dentists. The advantage of a single tooth implant is that we can preserve the tooth structure of the neighbouring teeth. It also allows for easy maintenance. Is resin-bonded bridge a good alternative? It has the advantage of minimal tooth preparation and research has shown good long term success in properly selected cases. These pros and cons of these 2 procedures will be discussed. This lecture will cover the case selection, design and tooth preparation, material selection, cementation procedures and how to prevent and management of failures. It is a simple procedure that can be done by any dentist.

Learning Objectives

  • Case selection for a successful outcome for Resin-Bonded Bridges
  • Clinical procedures for the construction of Resin-Bonded Bridges
  • Prevention and management of failures

IDENTIFYING & TREATING PERIODONTAL PATIENTS IN DAILY PRACTICE – by Dr. Jeanette Chua

Synopsis

In a busy general dental practice, it often does not give you the luxury of doing a comprehensive dental examination for patients even though one is expected to do so during dental school training.

A full dental examination includes full periodontal examination, which involves probing pocket depths, bleeding on probing, recession, mobility, plaque score and furcation.

To collect all these data accurately is very time consuming and can be a nuisance to patients if explanation of need is not well explained.

Nonetheless, all the above data in complete, and not in screening form is necessary to detect periodontal disease in the early, moderate and sometimes even in advance stages.

Learning Objectives

  • This lecture will focus on giving you a systematic and simple approach to identify and treat periodontal patients early.
  • It will also describe the necessary steps involved in ensuring right treatment protocols are being rendered.
  • Learn how focusing on periodontal needs of patients can help you build your practice
