Extraction and socket preservation is one of the simpler procedures of bone grafting that is often not discussed with patients prior to the extraction. There have been lots of controversial messages that have been sent out to the dental community with some advocating it as non-beneficial and some swearing by it. To understand extraction and socket preservation means to look into all the different techniques and materials that are available in the market today for extraction and socket preservation. How do we decide what is possible and what is not for a site and what are the factors to look out for?


This course will discuss:

  • what works and what does not
  • why is this important in being part of your practice even if you do not want to do it
  • how to be selective in your cases … to perform or to refer
  • the factors that dictates whether a socket preservation is performed successfully or when it is not
  • armamentarium for extraction and socket preservation
  • setting up for socket preservation
