DR. ELAINE LIM



As a dental surgeon, Dr Lim Ee Lian, who is currently a PhD scholar in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya (UM), is keen in the area of implant dentistry. Dr Lim earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Malaya in 2012 and was awarded Distinction for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Radiology. In 2015, Dr Lim obtained her Diploma of Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MFDS RCS Ed.). After that, she was awarded the Fellowship of International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) in 2018. In the following year, she received both the Fellowship of The International College of Dentists (ICD) and the ICOI Mastership, hence her recognition as “Master of Implant Prosthodontics” by the ICOI. Dr Lim is actively engaged in organising numerous dental educational events both at local and global arenas. She is the Immediate Past President of Malaysian Dental Association (MDA) Toastmasters Club. Apart from being the proud founder and council member of Osseointegration Society of Malaysia, she was also the Co-Chairperson for the recently held 2019 Malaysia Implant Symposium. She has been selected as a committee member for Women’s Implantology Network (WIN) in the South East Asia region. To add to her achievement, she was the assistant tutor for Modular Program in Implant Dentistry entitled ‘Fundamental Surgical Anatomy & Radiographic Interpretation in Clinical Dentistry, Malaysia’. She has served as a dental officer for the Malaysian Ministry of Health for three years in various specialties departments in Alor Setar, Kedah. In 2015, she worked as a private dental practitioner in Chin Dental Surgery, Penang. In the following year, Dr Lim enrolled as a postgraduate student in Master of Dental Science (Oral Surgery) programme in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya. In 2018, she upgraded her Master of Dental Science (MDSc) to pursue Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the Department of Oro-Maxillofacial Clinical Sciences. She held two portfolios, first as a research assistant and second as a part-time tutor to teach undergraduate dental students in the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya. Due to her unwavering interest and passion in the research domain, Dr Lim has won numerous accolades and awards in both oral and poster presentations at local and international levels. Some of her proud achievements include the Second Prize in Poster Presentation at International Team for Implantology (ITI) Congress South East Asia 2016, and the First Place in Poster Presentation in ICOI ASEAN Congress 2018. She has publications in international journals as well for her esteemed research work. Aside from the exceptional dentistry pathway, Dr Lim has special interest in table tennis. She has qualified as an International Umpire since 2010. At present, she is a Blue Badge International Umpire, the highest award named by the Umpires and Referees Committee of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). Dr Lim has been umpiring in several international table tennis events, including SEA Games, Youth Olympic Games, ITTF World Tour, World Junior Table Tennis Championships, and World Table Tennis Championships. She has been selected as an umpire for the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo, hence proudly to be the first female Malaysian Umpire selected to Olympic in Table Tennis and 16 years since the last Malaysian Umpire who served in Athens 2004.
